Royal New Zealand Navy

The Royal New Zealand Navy has a long and proud history of supporting science; this goes right back to the days of Captain James Cook. This tradition continues with our support of the Campbell Island Bicentennial Expedition, a noteworthy endeavour. We're providing transportation to and from Campbell Island for the expedition team - it just so happens to be the maiden southern seas voyage of our offshore patrol vessels (Otago and Wellington); time for everyone to toughen up!

The Royal New Zealand Navy is responsible for the maritime defence of New Zealand and its interests. Our vision is “to be the best small-nation navy in the world”, reflecting the unique nature of our business upon the oceans. Our mission states the purpose of our navy: “To contribute to the security and prosperity of all New Zealanders through the delivery of versatile, responsive, and effective maritime military capability across the spectrum of operations.”
